Collacot
SOUTH MILTON

SLEEPS 8

Set in the idyllic and much sought-after village of South Milton, just five minutes from the soft sands of South Milton Beach, Collacot is a beautifully restored 16th-century home with a rich and storied past — a truly exceptional luxury holiday cottage in Devon.

Once the village school, the house carries its history with quiet confidence — thick stone walls, a traditional thatched roof and a sense of permanence that only time can create. Inside, it has been thoughtfully reimagined into a deeply stylish and atmospheric retreat, where heritage and design sit effortlessly side by side, creating a refined Devon holiday home of rare character.

There are four bedrooms, each with its own ensuite, and each entirely individual in character. From beautifully crafted headboards to handmade curtains in richly textured, carefully sourced fabrics, every detail has been considered. Antique pieces sit comfortably alongside more contemporary touches, while the artwork throughout the house creates a gentle sense of narrative — each room revealing something new, drawing you further in.

At the heart of the home, the farmhouse kitchen feels both traditional and quietly luxurious, centred around the Aga and complemented by thoughtful modern additions. It’s a space designed as much for slow mornings as it is for long, relaxed suppers. Just beyond, a practical boot room — complete with both an outdoor shower and additional indoor shower — makes returning from the beach or countryside walks effortlessly easy, ideal for a relaxed coastal holiday in Devon.

The sitting room is deeply inviting, with its original features intact. A large log burner anchors the space, while generous, sink-in sofas are layered with soft textures and natural tones, creating a room that feels both grounding and restorative.

Outside, the garden is private and gently enclosed, with the feel of a classic country cottage garden. A hot tub adds a note of indulgence, while the beautifully constructed wooden pergola offers a more considered outdoor living space — ideal for long lunches, slow evenings or simply unwinding with a drink. It can be enclosed and heated, extending its use well beyond the summer months.

There is private parking for three cars, along with an EV charging point, making longer stays as practical as they are comfortable — a seamless addition for a modern luxury holiday home in Devon.

Collacot is a house with real depth — a place where every corner has been thoughtfully composed, yet nothing feels overdone. It offers that rare balance of character, comfort and quiet, confident style, creating a truly memorable luxury coastal stay in South Devon.

WHAT WE LOVE...

  • The sense of staying somewhere with a story — where the former schoolhouse setting and original features gives the cottage a warmth and character that feels instantly grounding

  • The layering of interiors — from antiques to handmade fabrics and thoughtfully chosen artwork, each room feels considered, individual and full of character

  • The ease of the layout — four ensuite bedrooms that allow everyone their own space, while still feeling connected and sociable

  • The rhythm of coastal living — coming back from the beach to the boot room and outdoor shower, before settling into the warmth of the cottage or the hot tub outside

  • The outdoor living — particularly the beautifully designed pergola, with heating and lighting and the flexibility to be open or enclosed, creating a space that works just as well for long summer lunches as it does for relaxed evenings outdoors

  • The setting — peaceful and tucked away in South Milton, yet just minutes from the beach and surrounded by some of the best coastal and countryside walks in South Devon
