Set in the peaceful hamlet of Higher Batson, this beautifully presented Devon cottage offers a quietly luxurious retreat, nestled within a gentle valley setting. Sleeping 6–8 guests, it combines the charm of a traditional cottage with the ease and comfort of a thoughtfully designed home.

 

The stable-style front door opens into a light-filled farmhouse kitchen, elegantly finished and perfectly positioned to overlook the garden and surrounding countryside. It’s a welcoming space for both cooking and gathering. Just outside from here, a large outdoor dining area and barbecue create a natural extension of the house—perfect for long, unhurried lunches and relaxed summer evenings.

 

The sitting room is rich in character, with exposed stone walls and a log burner bringing warmth and atmosphere. Comfortable sofas and armchairs invite you to settle in, while the reading corner with a wooden desk offers a quieter spot for a book or a moment of calm.

 

A self-contained games room adds an extra layer of space and flexibility, complete with a foosball table, television and dedicated games area—ideal for easy evenings or keeping younger guests happily occupied.

 

Upstairs, four well-appointed bedrooms provide a restful and flexible layout. Two king-size rooms offer a calm, considered feel, one with its own en suite shower room, while a twin room and a charming bunk room are well suited to families with children. A modern family bathroom with bath serves these bedrooms.

 

Outside, the garden feels both private and sheltered within the valley, with plenty of space to unwind. The terrace and dining area naturally draw you outdoors, whether for morning coffee or evenings spent lingering over supper. The garden extends doewn the valley and has a dedicated and secure area for dogs to run around. 

 

With two private parking spaces and dog-friendly accommodation, the cottage is as practical as it is inviting. Just a 20-minute walk from Salcombe’s harbour, it offers the best of both worlds—a peaceful countryside setting with easy access to the coastline and the wider South Hams.

  • Changeover day at Summer Cottage is Friday.

  • During peak weeks we require a 7 night minimum stay.

  • We recommend an occupancy of maximum of 6 adults and two children

Dining Area: Positioned to flow naturally from the kitchen with a wooden farmhouse style table seating 8 people. 

Sitting Room: Characterful and cosy, with exposed stone walls and a log burner, offering comfortable seating and a relaxed atmosphere.

Reading Corner: Quiet nook within the sitting room, complete with a wooden desk—ideal for reading, working, or a moment of calm.

Cloakroom: Practical space for coats and boots, ideal after coastal walks, leading through to the downstairs shower room.

Shower Room: Convenient ground floor shower room, accessed via the cloakroom.

Games Room: Separate, self-contained space with foosball table, television and games area—ideal for evenings in or keeping younger guests entertained.

Thank you for opening up your lovely home to others. We have had a wonderful week here.

All the little touches are much appreciated, and we especially enjoyed the robin who came to visit us from time to time in the garden.

We have loved the slower pace and the sense of calm—it has been the perfect place to unwind, reset and recharge, and we leave feeling much more relaxed.

We will definitely be back again.

We have so enjoyed our stay in your beautiful holiday home. Everything is so comfortable, from the spacious lounge to the gorgeous garden and decking area—perfect for relaxing.
The location is ideal for exploring Salcombe and the surrounding area.

The last time we visited Summer Cottage was about two years ago—we love it even more now! It feels even more special than before. Summer Cottage truly just gets better and better.

We very much hope to return—it really is perfect in every way.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since our first visit to Summer Cottage, but I’m pleased to say it’s still as fabulous as ever.
The renovations and extension definitely enhance what is already the perfect home away from home, and we absolutely loved the kitchen area and the views from upstairs, which are simply stunning.
